The BRC 4th Annual Gala proved yet again to be a star-studded event. With the Georgia International Convention Center ballroom to near capacity, guests could clearly see that this was the hot ticket for the evening. Honorary Co-Chairs Tommy Dortch, CEO of TWD, Inc., and George Andrews, CEO of Capitol City Bank opened the Gala with Greetings.

Honoring this year's Gala recipients Hank and Billye Aaron, guests included the Honorable C. T. Martin who presented the BRC History; former East Point Mayor Patsy Jo Hilliard; the Honorable Herman Russell; Mrs. Sasha Taylor, who read a proclamation from her husband, Lt. Governor Mark Taylor; Mrs. Theresa Walker, wife of the late Dekalb Commissioner Lou Walker; and Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox. Mission on the Move Overseer Rev. Cynthia Andrews presented a proclamation from Congressman John Lewis.

The Aarons were honored with a special video tribute and a musical tribute by Entertainer Faye Raye. Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Durley, Senior Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, introduced guests to the BRC Kitchen Table Affirmative Action (KTAA), the principle and practice of self-help that is sweeping through churches, businesses and communities throughout metro Atlanta. The night concluded with entertainment from Gospel Recording Artist James Bignon, who performed with his own Deliverance Choir and members from BRC churches.

By implementing and practicing KTAA program, we can begin to meet the needs of our community and strengthen the manner in which we do business as a people. The BRC doesn't want you to just sit at the table, but be accounted for. Take affirmative action to release the shackles off our finances by making a conscious choice to circulate your dollars in the Black community. This will help to produce financial freedom for us all.

Hank and Billye Aaron Receive Overground RR!! Conductor's Award
    hank and billye aaron

Henry “Hank” Aaron and his wife, Billye, were humbled and gracious in their acceptance of the Overground RR!! Conductor Award at the BRC’s 4th Annual Gala Celebration held on Saturday, April 8th at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

The couple, who flew in from Minnesota, were greeted with a standing ovation from the more than 800 guests at the Gala after a video tribute produced by BRC member Vince Bailey of Vince Bailey Productions.

The evening also was special for the Aarons as it marked the 32nd Anniversary of Hank Aaron breaking the all time homerun record held by the legendary Babe Ruth, hitting homerun number 715. He would later end his Hall of Fame baseball career with 755 homeruns, a record that still stands today.

Billye Aaron, a dynamic media personality and former educator, has received wide recognition for academic excellence, her philanthropic activities, her community involvement and her tireless efforts to make contributions to the betterment of all God’s children. She was lauded for her contributions to the United Negro College Fund and the originator of the Mayor's Masked Ball, which has become one of UNCF's highest grossing special events. She became one of the UNCF's premier fundraisers and retired in 1994 after 14 years of service.

As a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron has been a remarkable team, not only complementing each other as husband and wife for 29 years in their professional careers, but also providing a wonderful example of marriage as a partnership for social progress and community improvement. They have helped many worthy causes in Atlanta and throughout the country.

Hank and Billye are co-founders of The Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation, a philanthropic trust that makes grants to children between the ages of 9 through 12 to assist them in developing their special talents and chasing their dreams. These children are provided with opportunities and a chance to pursue their dreams in areas in which they have shown early ability.
