  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prize Winners - 3rd Annual Golf Tournament
    1st Place Winners

    The 3rd Annual BRC Family Festival and Golf Tournament was held on the beautiful greens of Durham Lakes Golf Course, located in Fairburn Georgia. Over 90 golfers participated in the best ball scramble golfing event while families and BRC church members engaged in a festival of activities from face paintings, carnival rides and appetizing refreshments.
    Taking the helm as Honorary Chair for this year's event was Dr. B. Wang Kong of the Association of Black Cardiologist. Other metrowide notables to participate included DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas Brown, and C. Andre Grier, Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church.
    The Pairing Party this year was held at Haney Plaza at the Fort McPherson Army Base. Catering and decoration was provided by BRC member Pastor Sherri S. Davis of J&S Uniquely Expressed. Tables were accented with rustic miniature golf caddies, candles and autumn floral arrangements.
    Special Thanks to this year's Host Committee Members: Chair Kong, Honorary Co-Chairs Pastor Eric D. Jackson and Rev. Rodney B. Harris, and remaining host members including Morris Williams, Shawn Dinwiddie, Audrey Johnson, Maceo Brown, James Jackson, Shirley Coleman, Nash Alexander and Swain Watters.

    Congratulations to 2nd Place winners, sponsored by Morris E. Williams III, returning as last year's defending champions. Pictured with Williams (third from right) are Will Collins, Reggie Veasley, Brown, Daryl Taylor, and Alexander. For the second straight year, the Dekalb team donated their prize back to the BRC.

    Metro Junior Senior Golf League participated in the BRC Golf Tournament for the first time. They provide golf lessons, motivational speakers, benefit tournaments, golf etiquette/rules.     African American Family Farmers Conference
    The 4th Annual African American Family Farmers, Inc. (AAFFI) Conference will be held at Fort Valley State College on Thursday and Friday, November 16 -17, 2006 in the Pettigrew Center.
    A banquet will be held November 16, at 7:00 pm. and the conference, including a continental breakfast at 7:30 am, an hour luncheon beginning at 12:30 p.m., and a series of workshops starting at 8:30 am kicks off on Friday.

    People's Agenda Celebrates Lowery's 85th Birthday

    On Thursday, October 19, 2006, the board of directors of the Lowery Institute and our BRC Alliance, The Peoples’ Agenda, along with a host of family, friends and supporters will celebrate the 85th birthday of the Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. Celebrities including Harry Belafonte, Dick Gregory, Governor Roy Barnes, Jesse Jackson, Don King along with other distinguished guests will roast and give tribute to Rev. Lowery as advocate for the “least of these” and fearless fighter for civil rights and justice. Radio Talk Show Host Tom Joyner will MC the Tribute/Roast. The evening’s entertainment will include a performance by Fonzworth Bentley.
    The event will be held at the Martin Luther King International Chapel at Morehouse College. The Reception will begin at 6:00 p.m; Recording for the Tribute/Roast will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
    Funds raised will benefit the Lowery Institute whose mission is “to provide opportunities for students, teachers, professionals, advocates, elected officials, clergy and laity, to benefit from examples of nonviolent advocacy, and for exploration of the moral, ethical and theological imperatives for justice and human rights for all people”.
